I know what you’re thinking, “But I thought this girl was vegan?”
No labels here! I lead a mostly plant-based diet and am flexible on occasion. One big and very important exception being cheese on a food that is very near and dear to my heart: pizza. Call me a pizzavegan! A cheesypizzavegan? After working in a world-famous pizzeria for years (Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, Arizona), I developed a passion for pizza just like many others, and what I like to call “pizzalust”. When I travel I make it a point to make sure that pizza is a part of our itinerary, whether I’m going to Rome or Paris or Phoenix or Southern Spain. Here are some of the highlights of my PIZZALUST adventures:
Marseille, the Naples of France
Ahh, Marseille, what do we really know about you? You’re French, you’ve got drugs and drug lords, and no one ever really knows how to pronounce you (is it MarsELLS or MarSAY?). What a lot of people really don’t know though, is that Marseille is a pizza MECCA, full of incredible pizzerias in a city that’s a little rough around the edges but with so much soul to offer.
My Two Absolute Favorite Pies in Madrid
Okay, so like many other large cities around the globe, getting great pizza has become fairly easy. Madrid is no different. There are DOZENS of incredible pizzerias around the city, and a new one seems to be opening every day. I have had countless amazing pies in the city and there are still so many more places that I would love to go to, but there are two pizzas in particular that I believe are extraordinary.
Lucali in Brooklyn
I’m not exactly sure when I first heard about Lucali. All I knew was that there was a candlelit pizzeria in Brooklyn that you had to wait hours to get into, and that was all it took. I needed to try this pizza.
Pizzas in Rome
Rome just might be my favorite city in the world. Every corner you turn is another breathtaking piece of history, and of course another incredible pizza or pasta. I still have so many pizzas to try, but these are just some of the amazing pizzas Rome has to offer…
BÆST in Copenhagen
Dani and I went to Copenhagen in late December 2019. Little did we know it would be our last international trip before a global pandemic would change everything, and that we wouldn’t be able to travel again for a very long time. We obvs wanted to check out the Christmas hygge, but more importantly we had to have Copenhagen’s famous pizza, from Bæst.
