BÆST in Copenhagen

BAEST BETTER.jpg

Dani and I went to Copenhagen in late December 2019. Little did we know it would be our last international trip before a global pandemic would change everything, and that we wouldn’t be able to travel again for a very long time. We obvs wanted to check out the Christmas hygge, but more importantly we had to have Copenhagen’s famous pizza, from Bæst.

I’m not sure when I first heard about Bæst, maybe at some point when I was trying desperately to get a reso at Noma, or someone had told me about it, but it was number one on our list of things to do in Copenhagen. I made a reservation in advance and we bundled up to head out on a cold and bleary night.

As we were approaching, we turned the corner and saw a string of patio lights guiding us to a dimly lit restaurant. We walked in and someone immediately took our coats and added them to an endless wall of parkas. It was much hipper than I was expecting, with copenhageners dressed to the nines ready for a night out and pizza. The hygge was strong and we were hungry.

We started with a couple glasses of Italian wine (btw Copenhagen is expensive, alcohol is real expensive [okay compared to Spain, maybe not the US], so prepare yourself mentally beforehand). We ordered grilled polenta to start, followed by a Marinara pizza topped with their housemade ricotta (pictured above) and their artichoke pizza that was the special for the night. The crust was perfectly charred, fluffy and soft, doughy and chewy. Their toppings were as fresh as it gets. It wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had, but it was insanely good, and on a freezing cold night is there any better place in the world that inside a dimly lit restaurant stuffing your face with pizza? Nope.

Their menu changes regularly, and I would absolutely love to go back and and try many more pizzas! If you’ve been let me know because I’m so curious about what others think about Bæst!
